Yes, this is me in a very special place. Can you guess the place, time of the year and of the day?

  1. I think this is a pub situated somewhere in London. The time of the year is May and it's about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Anyway it's a very beautifull, old bulding, with a huge personality.

  2. after the discussion we had today at the courses, I figure out that building is situated in Essex and indeed searching on net I found similar buildings there.

  3. Well, Maria
I visited England several times, so Essex was just one of them.
Indeed, as I said in the post, this is type of building is specific to England, but you can try harder.

  6. The picture is made in London, on Oxford street, and the time was either spring or autumn, in the afternoon, around 5 o'clock. it seemed like a nice day.

  7. In my opinion, the place is situated in Stradford, United Kingdom. I think that is around the summer season in june - july and it`s about 3 o`clock in the afternoon. After some researches I discovered that the building is The Garrick Inn, wich is named after the the Shakesperian actor David Garrick and now is Stratfords oldest pub. In the ride of Garrick Inn pub can be seen The Harvad House wich was the home of Katherine Rogers, grandmother of John Harvard, founder of Harvard University. The house now houses a museum of pewter and silverware.

  8. For all students:
Could you explain how you try to guess the place? What kind of research do you do?

  9. It's easy to answer this question. I wanted to be an arhitect because I love all that means arhitecture. So, I was interested by all the types of arhitecture. In one article in a book I red about the buildings in this city that were constructed in Tudor style. It's a representative style, caracteristic for Chester. When I saw the picture, I recognized it. :D

  12. Hello Teacher! :)
For the first time of course, I searched on the Internet some similar images. I recognized the typical English buildings but I did not know exactly wich and where is it. Later, I found a site about " The tour of England" and I found, with a little patience, the buildings and their history.

  13. Well yes, you are right about the place.
How about the time of year and day? They were not right so far. England can be very tricky when it's about weather!

  14. I`m very glad that I guessed the place. :) Hmm.. I`m not very sure but, this time, I think that is spring or autumn and it`s about 3 or 5 o`clock.
    Thank you Szidonia!:)

  15. Considering that my colleagues have already guessed the place I give my opinion about the season.
I think this picture was taken in summer, around noon.

  16. Well, if I didn't guessed the place I will try to guess the time of the year and the hour. I think it was made in may, around eight o'click.

  19. It's late to guess the place where the picture was made but I'll try to guess the time and the season, this picture I think was made in July afternoon 3 o'clock-2008.

  20. Krisztina,
what makes you think that it was 2008?

  21. The picture is made in July around 12 o'clock ,and maybe 2009.

  23. Natalia,
you have to read earlier comments. The place was already guessed: it's not London. I'll let you discover for yourself.
For the time and month, you have to think over.

  24. Natalia,
that's just the country.... try more.

  25. Well, I read all the comments, but i think they are all wrong, i think that it`s a restaurant with some specific english food because you cand see the placards that are placed outside with the menu, it`s in England, of course, an it`s about 2 to 3 o`clock because there are too many people wandering arround that probably finished working for that day. ;)

  26. I think that place is somewhere in England and the picture was made at the front of any ale-house.

  27. I'm guessing that this is a well-known place in England, or else it wouldn't of been described as "a very special place". I would say it's somwhere on Oxford street. The date could be the 15th of May, somwhere arround 4-6 PM.

  28. Sergiu,
I'm sorry to tell you that your place is wrong. Oxford street is a very modern street in London.

The place has already been guessed by another student. I'm not telling who. You have to read above.
This means that when you answer a question you also have to read your colleagues' comments.

  29. Uhm … I don’t think I can raise to the challenge but I do know the picture is taken in Oxford, because when you enlarge it, the name tag is right there. And the place is maybe an old theatre where they serve alcoholic drinks. Or it could also be a place where you can do “stand-ups”, which would explain why they serve drinks. Other than that I can’t say much. Am I right? Or just close enough?

  30. Oana,
like others before, you got trapped. That is how I entitled my folder - but the photo was not taken in Oxford.
Just read above and you will find out who guessed the place.

Can you re-comment so that, maybe, others will read?

  31. I saw that RaMony discovered where the picture was done.So I guess it was done in summer time between june and july at 4 or 5 o'clock.

  32. The place is named: Stratford Upon Avon, and the building there is The Garrick Inn .But someone alredy posted that on the blog.
About the time, I think is August , 4 o'clock. The day?It could be any day.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the key feature that helped Ramona discover the place wes the architecture of the buildings in that area.
I think the time is somwhere in july at 3 o'clock.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, now everything has been guessed, place, building.
I need to give the time: it was April - one of the nicest time periods in England.
It was special as it happened in April 2010.

Does anyone know why being in England in April 2010 was special?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well ,I can't figure it out.Can You tell us, Teacher?

    ReplyDelete
  36. It was the time of the volcanic ash. Does this tell you something?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes,I remember about the voulcanic ash.It was all over the news. All kinds of theories.Pfffff.
    Well,it was special.

  38. It was very special to me because: my flight was cancelled, all European air space was blocked. And because I was scheduled for a course I could not postpone, I travelled to England by coach - a very long and tiresome travel but also very interesting because I was travelling with a lot of English people going back from Romania to their country.
I was almost the only one travelling in opposite direction.
I crossed the channel by ferry at Dover. England had become an island again!
